![]() ![]() The meteor strikes have annihilated much of the two warring nations, Rubinelle and Lazuria. Survivors across the globe pick through the ruins and wreckage, while the surviving remnants of military superpowers rove the wastelands - some factions aiming to aid the innocent, while others hunt them like wolves. These strikes have left much of civilization destroyed, and have stirred up an enormous dust cloud into the atmosphere, blotting out the sun. With everyone distracted by war, a shadowy faction uses the destruction to further its own agenda.Īlmost 90% of humanity has been wiped out by a cluster of catastrophic meteor showers. To make matters worse, an incurable disease runs rampant throughout both nations. In the aftermath, the 12th Battalion, also known as Brenner's Wolves, attempts to aid all survivors they encounter, despite the fact that the two battered nations have returned to war. Rubinelle and its rival nation, Lazuria, have been fighting a century-long war, but were interrupted when a global meteor shower bombarded the planet. Set in a somber, post-apocalyptic world, the game follows Rubinelle's 12th Battalion, a remnant of the country's military. 3.1 Changes from previous Advance Wars titles. ![]() But they've perfected their little fighting system so much that you can just play it over and over. I agree, Advance Wars veterans might not feel like they're getting another full game here. Whether that's worth getting another Advance Wars, is up to you. The map editor is a great new feature, but with only a few extra units and terrain features, it's the ONLY new feature. If you already have an Advance Wars, Days of Ruin might feel more like an expansion pack. You do need 2 copies of the game though for multiplayer matches, there's no download play. ![]() Yeah that type of user-generated experience is already catching on, we've seen it in Halo 3's forge, it'll be in Little Big Planet, but really I thnk Garry's Mod has done it best so far. It's a smart move, and I think we're gunna start seeing this type of feature in a lot more games from now on because it gives power to the player. Not only can you make your own maps but you can use them in multiplayer battles and even upload them to the internet, or download other user-made maps. You can edit skirmish options for quicker games though, and even make maps yourself if you want a smaller game. I was also a bit concerned about the pace of the game - some matches take 2 hours, and you feel like if you could've wrapped it up an hour ago it would have been great. It'll come down to taste Jung, but personally I didn't like this, I felt like the different superpowers differentiated the generals. But unlike the last advance wars, the superpower given to each commander is negligible. Throw in additional elements like range, fuel, ammunition, and stealth, and you've got a lot to think about each turn. Forests can hide troops in fog of war, mountains give you better sight, and you'd be wise to pay attention to chokepoints. On top of that, every square of terrain is different. Controlling cities on the map gives you funds with you can spend at factories on machines of war.Įverything from tanks, to missiles, to stealth bombers and submarines will fall under your command - and they all have their own counters, but that's just one layer of depth. ![]() You'll need to gather what forces you can in this new wasteland, and save the survivors from savage warbands straight out of Mad Max. It's actually a lot darker than the last Advance Wars - all the old characters & armies are gone after a catastrophic meteor shower near destroys the earth, and the feel of this one is very grim. I speak of course, of Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, the latest turn-based tactical war game on the DS.īut don't let the cartoon tanks fool you - underneath the childish exterior lies ferociously addictive depth and tons of replay value. And now, back to the oldschool days of war, when both sides settled disagreements in a gentlemanly manner, fighting it out in turns with toy soldiers. ![]()
